Cogload Junction

51.033357N 3.011072W

Foxhole Lane, Creech St Michael for Cogload Junction

TA3 5PF

The small free car park popular with dog walkers just over the canal bridge at the end of Foxhole Lane just East of the village of Creech St Michael offers superb lineside vantage points. From here Cogload Junction where the line divides is visible. If closer views or the main iconic view is preferred take the canal tow path walk eastwards. From down here you will get the popular lineside view of one line above the other.

Burlescombe | Higher Eastbrook | Whiteball

N 50°56'52.008" W 3°18'39.5136"

Burlescombe, Higher Eastbrook, Tiverton

EX16 7JT

Higher Eastbrook is one of my favourite go to places for a quiet summer's trip out to photograph HSTs providing superb vantage points from a choice of bridges. From M5 / J27 take A38 toward Bridgwater and continue along A38 until passing over the top of the M5. Shortly after turn left signposted as Burlescombe. Upon arrival in the village (Church on the left) turn right into the single track lane for about half a mile.

Upon arrival at the overbridge you will be presented with fabulous lineside views and a place to park a vehicle alongside a pond complete with ducks, a peaceful location to enjoy a quiet afternoon with HSTs or a railtour.

Important

Please note Whiteball Tunnel is only visible from private property and I urge / encourage others to seek the landowners agreement before visiting.

Marlands

(Whiteball Tunnel, Somerset side)

N 50°57'29.88" W 3°16'58.2744"

Marlands, Sampford Arundel, Wellington

TA21 9QU

From M5 / J27 take A38 toward Bridgwater and continue along A38 until passing over the top of the M5. Continue onwards along the short dual carriage way passing signs for Whiteball Recycling Centre. As the dual carriage ends look out of a right fork turn. Take this lane for about 100yds and then turn sharp right signposted as Marlands. Follow the narrow lane through twisting turns and down hill to the railway line. Pass under the railway and turn immediately right.

Taking short walks around the lanes here can provide several vantage points providing good photo opportunities, although Marlands can be a challenge to photograph at late afternoons on sunny days.
